Honeywell Receives Prestigious Engineering Award for its OnRAMP Software Design Suite
Honeywell has an extensive history in developing and pioneering automation and advanced control technologies, especially in the process and aerospace sectors, but it was only in the past decade that these technologies were applied to the automotive industry, which currently spends \\$1 billion a year in the development and calibration of powertrain controls to manage a vehicle’s engine and aftertreatment functions.
Several auto makers are currently using the OnRAMP suite of programs developed by Honeywell Automotive Software to analyze and solve complex powertrain challenges. Where it once took up to 12 months to design a new control system, with OnRAMP, they can design one in just a few weeks, or even days. Educational versions of OnRAMP have also been provided to universities in the U.S. and Europe to help train the next generation of automotive control engineers, as well as for academic and collaborative research going forward.
OnRAMP has garnered several industry accolades, including a 2012 Control Systems Technology award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
The IAA, the most prestigious international award for the industrial effect of advanced controls with only one winner chosen every three years at most, will be presented to Honeywell's David Germann, Dejan Kihas, Daniel Pachner, Jaroslav Pekar, Greg Stewart and Francesco Borrelli at the IFAC 20th World Congress in July 2017.
