Indian JSW’s crude steel output hits record high
OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2016. Indian producer JSW Steel's crude steel production hit a record quarterly high of 3.98mn t in July-September, as the company continues to build up its output capacity.
Production of flat and long rolled products increased by 12pc and 24pc year on year, respectively, in the second quarter of the firm's 2016-17 financial year.
JSW Steel has reported steady production growth for the past few months, having increased its crude steel capacity to 18mn t/yr from 14.3mn t/yr. And its capacity could rise further — the steelmaker signed an initial deal with the government of Orissa state at the end of August to establish a new 10mn t/yr plant.
The company further bolstered its portfolio last week, securing five iron ore mines, with reserves totalling 111mn t, which were re-auctioned by the Karnataka state government after the Supreme Court cancelled mining leases for 51 iron ore mines in 2012.
