OREANDA-NEWS. October 06, 2016. Power management company Eaton today announced that it has expanded its line of popular PowerXL Series DG1 variable frequency drives to include a new, more powerful Frame 6 option. Designed for global commercial, industrial and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers, the new Eaton engineered drive increases available power from 150 to 250 horsepower (hp), affording customers greater agility, reliability, and safety for their applications. Compared to traditional control methods, Eaton’s PowerXL DG1 series drives reduce energy consumption while helping customers reduce energy costs.

The Power XL DG1 Frame 6 design also utilizes cutting edge thermal management techniques to provide superior power density while also providing fully competitive performance.

“Many customers today face the difficult challenge of needing more power for their applications at ever increasing levels of efficiency and sustainability,” said Charles Tahara, global product manager for open industrial drives at Eaton. “Eaton’s PowerXL DG1 not only reduces energy usage, but also achieves improved performance, system reliability and safety.”

The newly advanced PowerXL DG1 is a 250hp general-purpose drive that incorporates a patented energy control algorithm, extensive onboard industrial communication protocols and built-in harmonic reduction to help customers reduce the cost of using a variable frequency drive. The product retains the same user-friendly keypad, interface and interaction features that made earlier versions of the drive popular, but increases the power available for customer applications.

Applications that already incorporate variable frequency drives may realize additional energy and emissions savings of up to 10 percent by switching to the PowerXL DG1 drive. With Eaton’s patented Active Energy Control algorithm, the new drives are programmed to dynamically adjust its operating point to minimize energy consumption. The modular design utilizing the latest generation of semiconductor technology is designed to provide greater reliability and reduced maintenance time and costs.

Customers using the new DG1 drive can still leverage the same option cards, including the new DeviceNet and CANopen communication cards, which provide versatile communication options. An enhanced graphical display and communication capabilities are embedded directly into the PowerXL DG1 drive. This provides customers detailed system data to simplify installation, commissioning and maintenance.

The newest DG1 extends the PowerXL series of variable frequency drives. First introduced in 2014, the compact PowerXL DC1 drive simplified programming for machinery OEM customers while the PowerXL DA1 drive provided advanced control functions designed for the most demanding drive applications.

The PowerXL DG1 drives are engineered for safety, including standard Safe Torque Off (STO) functionality. The drives are also Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliant and meet standards from Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Canadian Underwriters Laboratories (cUL), Conformit? Europ?enne (CE), and Australia and New Zealand’s C-Tick.
