OREANDA-NEWS. European countries that have entered into long-term contracts with the Russian Federation for the supply of gas now feel much calmer than those who focus on the spot market, said Dmitry Birichevsky, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's economic cooperation department, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"The specifics of the region are such that it is necessary to plan in advance the production and geography of gas supplies, but many companies in the EU have reoriented to the spot market. And what has this led to? Long-term contracts in this regard make it possible to ensure stability and feel confident. contacts with Russia - now they feel much calmer and more confident than those who focus on the spot market, "the diplomat said.

The EU plans to abandon long-term gas contracts by 2049 are still at the level of conversations, they have not yet come up with more reliable fuel, said Dmitry Birichevsky, director of the department for economic cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the European Commission proposed to ban the extension of long-term contracts for natural gas imports after 2049 in the European Union.

“I think that so far this is all at the level of conversations, primarily in the European Union itself. There is a discussion on this topic, which we hear and record. they will do so, "the diplomat said.

“We work with specific countries, we have valid contracts, and it seems to me that those countries that receive Russian gas see the competitive advantages of just such a long-term approach. I think that this situation will continue in the future. But to think for 2049 - This, of course, is premature. By that time, some other types of fuel may appear, but so far, even in the long term, nothing has been invented more reliable than natural gas, "he added.
