OREANDA-NEWS  From May to October, 2 million tons of critical goods were imported into Russia as part of parallel imports. The total amount of such imports exceeded $17 billion. This was announced by the head of the Federal Customs Service Bulavin at a speech in the Federation Council.

"The legalization of parallel imports has become important for the economy of products entering the Russian market. From May to October, almost 2 million tons of critical goods worth almost $17 billion were imported," Mr. Bulavin said.

According to the September forecast of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the volume of parallel imports by the end of 2022 will amount to $20 billion. From August to September alone, it grew from $6.4 billion to $9.4 billion. Deputy Head of the Federal Customs Service Ruslan Davydov noted that the main volume of goods imported by parallel import includes electronics, appliances, goods for everyday use, clothing and perfumes.

At the end of June, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the legalization of parallel imports. This document protects Russian businesses that import goods into the country without the permission of the copyright holders from civil, administrative and criminal liability.

The list of products that can be imported into the Russian Federation under the new scheme is compiled by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Initially, it included 96 items, including spare parts for cars, clothing, shoes and pharmaceutical products.

Subsequently, the Ministry adjusted this list. For example, in early November, the Ministry of Industry and Trade legalized the parallel import of alcohol. Now, without the permission of the copyright holders, White Horse whiskey, Jack Daniel's, Jim Beam bourbon and alcohol of other popular brands can be imported into the country.
