OREANDA-NEWS  An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred in the Pacific Ocean off the southeastern coast of Kamchatka on Wednesday, according to the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"Coordinates: 52.5662, 159.2814... Magnitude: 5.0," the scientists' Telegram channel reports on the seismic event.

According to the service, the earthquake occurred at 3.30 Moscow time. The epicenter of the quake was located 72 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the center was located at a depth of 63.2 kilometers.

According to seismologists, the earthquake was felt with a force of up to three points in the main territory of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and up to four points in some areas.

According to the GUMCHS of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory, over the past day, six aftershocks of magnitude from 3.5 to 4.8 were recorded in the region. According to seismologists, one of them was felt in the settlements of the region with a force of up to four, and in some areas - up to five points.

On July 30, Kamchatka experienced the strongest earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 since 1952. Since then, scientists have been recording aftershocks every day - repeated tremors. Most of them are not felt in populated areas. The intensity and power of aftershocks are gradually decreasing. Seismologists described the level of seismicity last week as the background average. A natural emergency regime has been introduced and is in effect in the region.
