OREANDA-NEWS  Nicaragua recognized the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Lugansk People's Republic (LPR), Zaporizhia and Kherson regions as regions of the Russian Federation. This is stated in a letter from the country's co-presidents Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin and published on the El 19 Digital portal.

"On behalf of the Government and the people of Nicaragua, we express our full support and recognition of the Donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk and Zaporizhia regions as an integral part of the Russian Federation," the message says.

Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, who signed the letter, noted their support for Russia's heroic struggle against Ukrainian neo-Nazism, supported by NATO. They also expressed solidarity with the Russian families who sacrificed the lives of their loved ones for the sake of protecting the Russian people and world peace.

"We are confident of Russia's victory over these forces of evil, over the hegemonic powers, over fascism. Russia's victory is a victory for humanity," the Nicaraguan co—presidents added.

Four new regions — the DPR, the LPR, as well as the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions — became part of Russia on September 30, 2022. Referendums on the return of these territories to Moscow's jurisdiction were held in the regions from September 23 to 27.
