OREANDA-NEWS  Salmon fishing in Russia will inevitably decrease over the course of seven to ten years due to the cyclical approaches of these fish. This forecast was given by Ilya Shestakov, head of Rosrybolovstvo, in a comment to RIA Novosti.

He clarified that it all depends on the year, some will be more, some less, but during the specified period, the average catch of this type of fish will continue to fall. According to him, a similar trend was observed in the Soviet Union, sometimes the catch dropped below 100 thousand tons.

This year, the preliminary forecasts for Putin are not very good so far. Shestakov expressed hope that the research in April and May would give a more complete and positive picture.

The All-Russian Association of Fishermen reported that the volume of Pacific salmon production in 2026 could range from 204,000 to 260 thousand tons. Officially, fishing in the Far East opens on May 20, and ends at the end of November. According to the results of the 2025 harvest, the catch amounted to 335.5 thousand tons, that is, current expectations envisage its collapse by about one and a half times.
