OREANDA-NEWS  Cooperation between the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States is constantly developing under the sign of new ideas, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"Cooperation between the CIS countries is constantly developing under the sign of changes, new initiatives, and new ideas. The main thing is to identify new growth factors in time and integrate them into existing projects and programs," he said.

Lebedev named the main task facing the CIS in 2026.

The Secretary General noted that for him and for all CIS structures, the initiatives and proposals made by the heads of delegations during the meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Heads of Government and the Council of Heads of State of the CIS are a concrete guideline in this regard.

"It is their thoughts and suggestions, voiced in a frank and businesslike atmosphere, that is the program of our work for the near and long term. And our common task is to ensure its practical implementation," Lebedev said.
He pointed out that the world is changing very fast today. "Science, technological progress, digitalization and other processes are taking place dynamically in all spheres of society. Within the framework of the Commonwealth, we strive to respond promptly and flexibly to all the challenges of the time," the CIS Secretary General emphasized.
"At the same time, our actions must meet the interests of all CIS member states. To do this, the usual procedures for interstate associations to coordinate our decisions at the stage of their development are being implemented on all issues. Of course, this takes time, and it is important for us to keep up with the dynamics of the situation. Therefore, what we can really improve is to ensure that our decisions are further coordinated at the national level," Lebedev said.
