Comstar-UTS Will Support the Gifted Journalists
OREANDA-NEWS. On April 18, 2007 COMSTAR-United TeleSystems announced its support of International Competition of Business Journalism PRESSZVANIE in the Telecommunications, IT Technologies Nomination. The results of Competition will be summed up on 20 April 2007, reported the press-centre of COMSTAR.
The role of mass media in development of business is difficult to overestimate: apart from the information mission, they, to some extent, form public attitude to some news or other of the Company. Therefore, representatives of the business community get increasingly more interested in the media, by way of investment in purchase of the media assets, too. And with telecommunications being one of the fastest growing industries, which accounts for about 5% of the country’s GDP, the business publications featuring an independent and unbiased appraisal of the current events acquire in this context great value. The PRESSZVANIE Competition may become an attractive impetus for further quality evolution of the Russian business publications. It is with these reasons in mind that Comstar-United Telesystems supported the organizers. The works for Competition were selected based on monitoring of the federal and regional media including foreign correspondents accredited in Russia. Up to 5 thousand publications of 20 to 40 authors were sifted for each of the 10 relevant nominations.
“We are impressed so much with this year’s approach to selection of the works for short-lists, which supposes that the author’s name and media name are coded at the stage of reviewing the materials by the experts, which allows appraisal of the contents of publication, rather than just how widely the media is promoted,” Stanislav Fedulov, Public Relations Director, Comstar-United TeleSystems, said. “The competence of a journalist, his/her ability to present the material in an unbiased and balanced fashion are capable of having a major impact on perception of some newsbreak or other by the readership, and, at the end of the day, on building the image and reputation of the Company. Like the organizers of PRESSZVANIE, we are positively interested in encouraging the best representatives of the community, in promoting evolution of the quality business media in Russia. And we are genuinely delighted that this Competition gave us an opportunity to distinguish the most gifted and competent representatives of the mass media”.
The 1st PRESSZVANIE Competition was held in 2002 on the initiative of the Moscow Entrepreneur Association and the RUIE. In 2005, the Competition received support from MEDC, MIPE, Federal Agency for the Press and Mass Communications, Association of Managers and International Association for Business Communications, modified its format and acquired international status.
