Norilsk Nickel Awarded for Its Social Report
OREANDA-NEWS. On June 06, 2008 MMC Norilsk Nickel (hereinafter – Norilsk Nickel or the Company) was awarded a certificate for its Social Report by the International Organization of Employers at the seminar Sustainable Development Strategies and Corporate Social Responsibility: the World’s Best Practices, which took place in Geneva as part of the 97th Session of the International Labor Conference, reported the press-centre of Norilsk Nickel.
The Seminar was dedicated to cooperation between businesses, the state and the public in addressing key social development issues as well as to social reporting regarded as a tool used in implementation of sustainable development strategies.
The seminar was organized by Russian Managers Association, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (Employers) (RUIE), Coordinating Council of Employers’ Unions of Russia (CCEUR), International Labor Organization (ILO), International Organization of Employers (IOE).
The Social Report was presented by Olga Golodets, Norilsk Nickel Deputy General Director. According to Ms. Golodets, preparation of the Social Report based on the high international standards is a logical step in implementation of the corporate strategy aimed at achieving sustainable development and taking into account stakeholder interests; the strategy is part of the Company’s Social and Economic Development Concept to 2015. "For the fourth consecutive year the Company has published its Social Report and it intends to follow this approach in the future", - Olga Golodets said.
Ms. Golodets emphasized that Social Report is one of the most important aspects of building trust and mutual understanding between MMC Norilsk Nickel, the largest mining and metals company in Russia, the world's largest producer of nickel and palladium, and its employees, shareholders, business partners and state authorities.
Participants of the seminar regarded MMC Norilsk Nickel’s Social Report as remarkable. For instance, General Secretary of the International Organization of Employees (IOE) Antonio Penalosa and Coordinator of the International Council of Trade Unions Jim Baker emphasized the major contribution of the Company to addressing sustainable development issues.
According to Olga Golodets, Norilsk Nickel implements a consistent sustainable development and corporate social responsibility policy thus contributing to strengthening the Company’s positions in Russia and internationally
