Energoatom and Kazatomprom Discussed Prospects of Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. November 21, 2008. The State enterprise NNEGC “Energoatom” and National Nuclear Company “Kazatomprom” (Kazakhstan) discussed opportunities of cooperation in creating a nuclear-fuel cycle. The parties will take a keen interest in supplies of the Kazakh uranic concentrate for the needs of the NPP of Ukraine and cooperation within the framework of the International uranium enrichment centre established in Russia (Angarsk).
NNEGC “Energoatom” President Yurii Nedashkovskyi and National Nuclear Company “Kazatomprom” President Mukhtar Dzhakishev emphasized the necessity to stir up work in the framework of the closed joint-stock company “Joint Ukrainian-Kazakh-Russian nuclear fuel enterprise”.
During the meeting the sides informed each other about plans of the companies’ development and nuclear-industrial complexes of both states.
It is necessary to remind that on November 6 of the current year in the city of Astana (Republic of Kazakhstan) the VIII session of the Joint Ukrainian-Kazakh Interstate Commission for economic cooperation took place, the Ukrainian side is headed by Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine Yurii Prodan.
During the session of the Commission, the Ukrainian and Kazakh delegation members discussed cooperation in the fuel-energy complex. The sides noted that Ukrainian-Kazakh cooperation in the sphere of nuclear energy and nuclear industry is determined within the framework of mutual obligations in the sphere of nuclear fuel production for the NPP of Ukraine.
During the discussion of the mentioned issue, the Ukrainian side confirmed its interestedness in the development of cooperation with the Republic of Kazakhstan on uranic ore extraction and processing.
After the session of the Interstate Commission a protocol was signed, according to which the relevant departments of two states are commissioned to stir up cooperation in nuclear-fuel cycle by creating a corresponding working group to consider issues on strengthening cooperation in uranic extraction and processing, fuel pellets production, training the Kazakh energy specialists in higher educational institutions of Ukraine.
Moreover, the Commission gave a commission to the relevant departments of two states to promote the organizational measures for Ukraine’s participation in the International uranium enrichment centre.
Note: Today Kazakhstan takes the third place in uranium extraction in the world after Canada and Australia.
The National Nuclear Company “Kazatomprom” is a national operator of Kazakhstan in uranium import-export and other double goods. 100 percent of the company belongs to the state.
The National Nuclear Company “Kazatomprom” extracts uranium, produces the nuclear-fuel output, exports uranium, nuclear fuel, less-common metals etc.
