Moldova, EBRD Signed MoU on Sustainable Energy Action Plan
OREANDA-NEWS. February 07, 2011. The document was signed by the EBRD’s Managing Director for Turkey, Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, Olivier Descamps and the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, EBRD Governor, Valeriu Lazar.
The Action Plan will support promoting investments to Moldova from the European Investment Bank, World Bank. European Union and other donors for implementation of the Sustainable Energy Raising Plan in Moldova for a medium-term period, enabling to cut energy consumption in the country.
Valerii Lazar underlined the importance of the fact that Moldova would be receiving from the EBRD not only the financial but also technical assistance, the fact that in the long run will let it become an important player in the regional energy market. According to him, with assistance from the EBRD and other donors, Moldova plans to integrate into the regional energy market after the respective European policies have been introduced into its legislation and mutual connection with the neighboring states’ energy systems has been provided, enabling to diversify the supply sources.
Valerii Lazar emphasized that the Moldovan authorities intend to attract investments into the energy by establishing public-private partnership, fostering efficient use of energy resources and reducing energy intensity in the economy, especially, in agriculture, promoting energy saving technologies and programs. Valerii Lazar said it is planned to carry out the energy audit of enterprises in Moldova and the state is going to establish the industry of companies rendering energy efficiency improvement services.
