Moldovan Transport & Road Workers Union Demands to Increase Prices
OREANDA-NEWS. March 22, 2011. In their open letter, sent to the Parliament, Government and the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, 37 companies-passenger carriers say that have been suffering considerable losses due to the numerous rises in prices for fuel, spare parts and others.
That is why, the are asking the authorities to take the following measures: to fight against illegal passenger transportation by means of the daily checks for 3 months at the main entries into Chisinau, Balti and Orhei and at the main bus stations; to gradually bring the passenger transportation fees in line with the real costs; to restore urgently the fees for regular suburban and interurban routes fixed by the former Transport Agency in April 2008 in the amount of 40 and 42 bank for a passenger/kilometer, when a liter of diesel oil cost 10.85 leis.
In addition to that, the transport companies are forced to transport 7 categories of citizens, having privileges, the fact that entails 3.5-4 million leis of losses each year. The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure currently has a debt to passenger transporters in the amount of about 3 million leis for transportation of people having privileges in 2010. Only 100,000 leis are fixed in the draft state budget for 2011 for compensating transporters’ losses from transportation of passengers having privileges.
