OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2011. On the lines of the traffic police’s handheld speed guns to check speeding vehicles, North Delhi Power (NDPL) has now introduced advanced handheld thermoscanning radars for network maintenance. The thermoscanning radars use infrared thermography technique to detect any abnormality / glitch in the network equipment such as circuit breakers, power transformers and RMus. The infrared technology used in the radars captures any abnormal heat level within the equipment which is then further tested for any malfunctioning.

“The thermoscanning radars enable us to detect any abnormality in the network equipment at a very early stage. These abnormalities or high heat levels often referred to as hot spots confirm an internal problem which is promptly addressed now even before a breakdown occurs. The critical equipment like transformers and circuit breakers need to be constantly monitored and these handheld scanners have proved to be extremely effective for network maintenance and our failure rates of equipment have come down," said an NDPL spokesperson.
