OREANDA-NEWS. February 20, 2012. APEC Competition Policy and Law Group (CPLG) had a meeting in Moscow as part of working meeting in the run-up to the First APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM1) in the year of Russia’s chairmanship over Asia – Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

A delegation of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) at the Forum was led by Deputy Head of FAS Russia Andrey Tsyganov, who delivered a welcoming address to the participants.

The Group discussed:

- pressing issues in competition law and enforcement;

- summing up the projects carried out by the Forum and discussing the results of current projects;

- exchanging experience in the field of cooperation, particularly, informational, with other competition authorities across the globe;

- improving competition law;

- analyzing approaches to evaluation of competition in APEC economies;

- stimulating development of competition at the regional level;

- approving priority areas of work in view of the situation in the global economy and importance of developing competition policy in order to improve the state of the markets in APEC economies and in the region in general.

On 12th February 2012, Deputy Head of FAS Russia Andrey Tsyganov moderated the Round Table on the issues of cooperation, particularly, informational, with competition authorities across the globe.

On 13th February 2012, at the Session on improving and developing competition policy Andrey Tsyganov talked about the “third antimonopoly package of amendments” to Russian competition law, which came into effect in January 2012. He also informed session participants about the results of enforcement of the antimonopoly law in 2011.

Presentation made by Andrey Tsyganov stirred considerable interest, which was demonstrated by a significant number of positive comments and questions from the Group participants.

In presentations delivered during the two-day event, representatives of competition authorities form APEC economies emphasized active cooperation with Russian antimonopoly body.

Next CPLG meeting will take place in Indonesia under Indonesia’s chairmanship over APEC Forum in 2013.
