OREANDA-NEWS. August 06, 2012. During press conference, the president of the National Bank said that according to preliminary data, the volume of remittances, officially arrived in Moldova from individuals at the end of I half of 2012 remained unchanged compared to the same period last year.

He stressed the importance of not just of the volume of remittances, but the downward trend in the dynamics of remittances. "If last year the volume of remittances increased by about 17%, by mid-2012 growth rate is close to zero. The main importance of these data is that by mid-year transfers will not exceed the amount of the previous year, which means that these funds will not be able to maintain the same degree of household consumption, therefore - reduced domestic demand, economic activity slowed down considerably, "- said Dragutanu.

As it was previously reported, in 2011 remittances of individuals from abroad totalled USD 1.45 billion lei, by 16.9% more than in 2010. About USD 1 billion 276.61 million (about 88 % of all transfers) were carried out through various fast money transfer systems.

According to the NBM, the most money was received in September - USD 143.38 million, while the least - in January - USD 71.51 million. Quarterly analysis shows that the largest amount of remittances came in the III quarter - USD 421.01 million, the lowest – in the I quarter 2011 - USD275.85 million. Volume of remittances to Moldova from abroad to individuals through banks in January-May 2012 totalled USD 519.69 million, an increase by 2% compared with the same period last year.
