OREANDA-NEWS. December 10, 2012. CEO Chung Joonyang`s `On-site Management` in which he visits steelworks and field sites to encourage the employees despite his busy schedules and communicates with them regarding the global steel market conditions, POSCO`s current status, ways to overcome economic downturns and employees` difficulties and interest is receiving warm responses from employees, reported the press-centre of POSCO.

Following his visits to the Technical Research Laboratories of the Pohang R&D Center and Pohang Steelworks on November 12 and 13, CEO Chung Joonyang visited Gwangyang Steelworks to have a luncheon meeting with part leaders, SV and quality masters and visited sinter and oxygen plants to strengthen skinship with field sites.

CEO Chung praised the employees, saying, ``I feel reassured knowing that I am with fully-devoted employees with a strong sense of ownership.`` He stressed that, ``We can overcome the current slowdown in the steel-making industry arising from the global financial recession and oversupply if we make a concerted effort.``

He asked the employees to put more energy into exerting a sense of ownership to find solutions in the face of problems in each division including equipment and manufacturing. He emphasized that, ``If we try to make excuses or fail to take actions when faced with problems, we have no desire to resolve the problems. True ownership is never giving up and finding a way until problems are resolved.``

First, He visited the sinter plant to examine its operation status and discussed with the employees their main interests. He also expressed his attention to the employees` operation and maintenance activities, individual efforts to improve profitability and ownership improvement activities. CEO Chung commented that he was deeply impressed by the employees` efforts to eliminate unnecessary waste factors starting with trivial things and consistently reaffirmed their determination to reduce costs by writing down their individual feasibility improvement goals on their safety helmets.

In particular, he instructed them to attach the name and photo of the employee who resulted in reducing costs by 30% by executing ideas to reduce the number of air compressors units to 43 from 62 and recycle worn-out rubber conveyor belts on the equipment in an attempt to raise self-esteem,.

CEO Chung, who then arrived in the oxygen plant, complemented the employees at the plant for their hard work and exemplary operation and maintenance activities, and asked for more efforts to help their case take firm root in the entire steelworks.
