OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2013. Insurance in the agro-industrial complex becomes more available for agricultural producers. For now already 7 companies received an official licence for such kind of activity. Apart from support of insurers the agrarians can rely on the state assistance as well.

Last year it gave compensations up to 50% of the amount of isnurance payment in the course of insurance of winter wheat crops. And already this year it is planned to enlarge state subsidies for corn, soya and sugar beet.

Last year the law “On peculiarities of insurance of the agricultural production with the state support” came in force in Ukraine. The law regulates relations in the area of insurance of agricultural production, which is carried on with the state support, with an aim to protect property interests of agricultural trade producers.

In 2012 the state allocated UAH 70 million to compensate insurance of winter wheat from losses in a wintering period.

“The national agrarian sector needs transition to the civilized practice when natural climate risks are compensated by the insurance companies and the agricultural producers themselves feel the need in insurance. For now the legislative base for solving insurance issues has been created as from July 1, 2012 the law “On the insurance of production of agricultural goods” is in effect, the one initiated by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Prysyazhniuk,” Prime Minister Mykola Azarov stressed.

And this year already, according to director of financial and credit policy and accounting department of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy Bagrat Ahidzhanov, the state plans to enlarge a list of insurance products, first of all, for the spring and summer period. So, the state subsidies can be enlarged for corn, soya and sugar beet.

The agrarian market is developing and it proves activity of the Agrarian Insurance Pool, that was formed in autumn of last year. Now it comprises 4 insurance companies. According to the deputy chief of the IFC project “Development of agrarian insurance in Ukraine” Iryna Golovko, the Agrarian Insurance Pool is functioning on the basis of world standards which guarantees rendering of quality services. 

Besides, the agricultural producers can rely on available insurance tariffs controlled by the Government.
