OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power Delhi Distribution has been awarded the prestigious National Award for Meritorious Performance in Power Sector under the 'performance of distribution companies' category for outstanding performance in the area of power distribution during 2011-12. The award, a bronze shield, was presented by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia and P K Sinha, power secretary, Government of India, during the National Awards for Meritorious Performance in Power Sector ceremony held today at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Praveer Sinha, chief executive officer and executive director, and Arup Ghosh, chief technology officer, received the award on behalf of the Tata Power Delhi Distribution team.
“We are extremely honoured to have been presented with the prestigious national award. This recognition confirms our path-breaking efforts in turning the ailing power distribution scene in the national capital. The 24x7 reliable and quality power supply, world-record reduction in the AT&C loss levels, world-class customer service at cost-effective tariff and operational transparency have been our hallmark. The recognition will further strengthen our resolve to provide the best of services to the consumers of Delhi”, said Praveer Sinha.
Tata Power Delhi Distribution was selected by the Central Electricity Authority for the award based on evaluation of performance indices, such as AT&C losses, financial turnaround, metering and reliability in its distribution network. Tata Power Delhi Distribution has earlier also been awarded the National Award for Meritorious Performance for 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2008-09 by the Union Power Ministry.
The National Awards for Meritorious Performance in Power Sector was introduced by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, three decades back in 1983, for recognising the performance of organisations covering the complete value chain of the power sector - generation, transmission and distribution - and to develop a spirit of competitiveness among them. The awards encourage power utilities to improve their efficiencies and productivity and show better results.
