OREANDA-NEWS. Fujitsu announced the release of version 4 of FUJITSU Education Solution Musetheque, a management system for museums and digital archives. The upgrade, available from today, significantly strengthens management and publishing of a collection's information.

This latest upgrade improves usability, and is compatible with mobile devices. It also offers greater flexibility in the form of hierarchical structures for data management and managed items. These enhancements make the collections-management process more efficient as the solution is able to respond to different needs with more flexibility. They also make it easy to apply the solution to library collections and public records offices, in addition to museum collections.

Options include a standard screen design package and a feature enabling searches of published collections information via the internet or through the smart devices of visitors. These options can be used to quickly build a reliable information-publishing environment.

Moreover, the solution's system architecture makes it easy to switch between languages for object names, on-screen guidance, and other messages displayed on the administrative screens and information-publishing screens used by curators. This simplifies publishing of global information and the transmission of information from locations outside of Japan.

The Mie Prefectural Museum has been taking full advantage of an early release of Musetheque v4 since it first opened on April 19, 2014.

Museums and similar institutions maintain large collections upon which they conduct studies and research. With growing awareness of the risks that these collections can be lost or damaged by natural disasters, museums are increasingly working to digitize information on their collections.

Fujitsu first began offering Musetheque in 1999. Musetheque is a collections-management system that provides centralized management and publication of all types of collections-material information, including photos, videos, and text. It is used by some 50 national museums, art galleries, and archive institutions in Japan today. Fujitsu developed Musetheque v4 through consolidating the know-how and requirements learned through deploying and operating these systems for its customers.
