Almaty Hosts Consultations on Construction of Rogun Dam
OREANDA-NEWS. July 22, 2014. The fifth round of consultations on construction of RogunDam with participation of Deputy Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan has been held in Almaty.
First Deputy Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev headed the Kazakh delegation.
Theme of the meeting was to discuss the mechanisms of transboundary water control among the coastal countries’ representatives.
Participants considered the preliminary report of the World Bank on the Rogun Dam project. It should be noted that Kazakhstan has actively participated in preparation of this report accompanied by a process of mutual consultations and discussions.
During the meeting, the Kazakh side presented a number of proposals in terms of strengthening the mechanisms of cooperation among all coastal countries.
Following the talks, it was agreed to hold another meeting, where the final report of the World Bank on Rogun Dam project will be considered.
