OREANDA-NEWS. December 18, 2014. During the 54th anniversary of Mauritanian independence, a grand completion and ribbon-cutting ceremony was convened for the 2nd Bidding Works under the Delta Highway Project, which was undertaken by the Road & Bridge Technology Company of the 17th China Metallurgical Construction Group (17MCC Group), in Mahler City.

 The ceremony was presided over by Ould, who is the President's Special Envoy, the Deputy Prime Minister and also the Ministry for Construction of Mauritania. The officials from the Ministry of Transportation, the provincial and local governments and the army were present at the event.

The officials inspected the jobsite, and learned in details on the construction progress, measures taken for the technical quality, safety, environment protection and livelihood works under the two bidding sections of the project. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the aids offered by Chinese Government and the continuous endeavor made by the Chinese contractors. Now the highway has been completed for traffic ahead of the original schedule, and is regarded as the Road for Hope with the top quality and will benefit the Mauritanian people living along this highway. He expected to continue the friendly cooperative relation with MCC Group, and make more contributions to the development of Mauritania.

The atmosphere on site is very active. All the officials spoke highly of the project and said “Tres bien” (Great!). They place high premium on the efforts made by the Chinese employees, who have conquered various difficulties such as tight schedule, heavy tasks and limitation of resources. By means of meticulous organization on construction, they completed the project execution on a timely and quality basis, created a miracle among Chinese enterprises in Mauritania, and eventually realized the early operation of the road. They expected the people of MCC to continue to apply the advanced construction technologies in the highway works in Mauritania, and established the Delta Highway into the Road for Hope which is featured by the friendship between Chinese and Mauritanian people.

The Delta Highway Project is one of the key road projects of Mauritania under the assistance of China, and consists of I and II bidding sections. The highway under the 2nd Bidding Section is 91km in length, the contract scope covers the landfill work of 1.01 million cubic meters for the roadbed, 146 culverts, 198,000 cubic meters for the sub-base and 130,000 cubic meters for the base.
