OREANDA-NEWS. The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) announced the development and licensing of a system which tracks app-based forms of ground transportation in an airport environment. The system, which tracks properly-equipped vehicles operating within a GPS "geo-fence" area, will be licensed through the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) for use at other airports around the United States.

"We are proud to be an industry leader, by creating a solution for tracking app-based airport ground transportation," said Airport Director John L. Martin. "We appreciate the partnership with the AAAE to make this system available to airports across the United States."

"AAAE delivers service, innovation and results for our members," AAAE President and CEO Todd Hauptli said. "We congratulate San Francisco on its groundbreaking efforts with app-based transportation companies and we are proud to bring this elegant revenue tracking solution to airports all across the country."

The tracking system developed by SFO allows airports with a GPS "geo-fence" to tabulate the amount of activity generated by app-based forms of ground transportation. This data can be used for fee calculation, roadway planning, and facility improvement efforts.

On March 10, 2015, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved the license and service agreement between the SFO and the Airport Research and Development Foundation (ARDF), a non-profit corporation formed by the airport trade association American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). Under the proposed license and service agreement, the ARDF would be able to enter into agreements and implement the tracking system at other U.S. airports.
