OREANDA-NEWS Belarus will have its own model of a civil aircraft by 2029-2030. This was stated on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel by Dmitry Krutoy, head of the Presidential Administration, Interfax reports.
He admitted that the country is developing aircraft industry "practically from scratch, without having a base," nevertheless, "a lot of work has been done, and it continues." Krutoy called the industry's production growth figures impressive — from 30 percent to three times a year.
We are talking about cooperation with key aircraft factories in Russia, under which orders are fulfilled by the 558th plant in Baranovichi, the Minsk Civil Aviation Plant and the Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant. These enterprises have not yet reached full utilization and systematic operation, limiting themselves to the construction of several production buildings from painting to the production of complex long-length parts for aircraft.
According to the official, the authorities have set the task for manufacturers to move away from repairs to full-fledged cooperation, create a new school, and gain new competencies in order to create a full-fledged aircraft in five years. Krutoy did not specify which aircraft or what characteristics he was talking about.
Currently, Belarusian enterprises are involved in a joint project with Russia for the Osvey aircraft. The creation of a 19-seater car was announced a year and a half ago, but no details of the project, except for the name, have been presented to the general public since then.
At that time, it was assumed that the production of Osvey would begin in 2026. In May of this year, Leonid Luzgin, General Director of the Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA), noted that the dates were postponed to 2027. However, at a meeting of the Public Council of the Federal Air Transport Agency held in October, it was reported that the certification of the machine is scheduled for 2027-2029.
