Rosneft has increased the share of water reuse
Source: OREANDA-NEWS
OREANDA-NEWS The share of recycled and reused water in Rosneft exceeded 93.7 percent of the total volume of water used for production needs. The company implements a corporate program to improve environmental efficiency, which provides for further reduction of water intake from natural sources and the introduction of modern wastewater treatment systems.
In 2025, the Achinsk Refinery in the Krasnoyarsk Territory carried out the reconstruction of wastewater treatment plants to increase the efficiency of water reuse. The share of recycled water for the production needs of the enterprise has increased to 95%.
Rosneft additionally implements natural solutions for water purification in production. The phytofiltration technology at the wastewater treatment unit is used by Rosneft refineries in the Samara region. At the Kuibyshev refinery, plants such as water hyacinths (eichornia), pancracium and calamus vulgaris help to obtain a high degree of disinfection of wastewater. Eichornia seedlings have proven themselves well at the treatment plants of the Syzran and Novokuibyshevsky refineries. Novokuibyshevsky Oil Refinery in the Samara region implements a comprehensive environmental program, one of the directions of which is the protection of water resources. Its implementation has improved the quality of wastewater by 36% over the past few years.
The biological treatment facilities complex of Bashneft oil refineries has processed 185 million cubic meters of wastewater since its launch in 2019. The treatment facilities serve not only Bashneft's refineries, but also provide a high level of wastewater treatment for more than 40 enterprises in the northern industrial zone of Ufa and stormwater runoff. The Angarsk Petrochemical Company in the Irkutsk region uses a closed water supply cycle – the company's recycling system ensures the reuse of 90% of the water.
In the field of oil and gas production at the fields of the Vankor cluster located in the basins of the Yenisei River and its tributary, Bolshaya Kheta, RN–Vankor environmentalists constantly monitor water bodies and the coastal strip located near production sites. Wastewater parameters are also being monitored for 23 indicators. In 2025, RN-Vankor ecologists took 316 samples of wastewater and 664 samples of natural water and sediments. With the support of RN-Nyaganneftegaz, construction of a modern water treatment plant in Nyagan has begun, which will increase the capacity of the city's water treatment facilities three times to 30 thousand cubic meters of water per day and will provide more than 60 thousand residents of Nyagan with high–quality drinking water that meets modern sanitary standards.
A reservoir pressure maintenance system has been developed at the Samotlorskoye field. The introduction of the method has already made it possible to eliminate water intake in the amount of more than 300 thousand cubic meters.
