OREANDA-NEWS The Ural Design Bureau of Transport Engineering, part of the Uralvagonzavod concern, has learned how to turn old T-72 and T-90 tanks into tank support combat vehicles (BMPT). This is reported by TASS with reference to the patent for the invention.

The Design Bureau's proposal involves removing the tank turrets and equipping their chassis with an adapter ring, allowing for coupling with the BMPT combat module. After that, the machine is retrofitted with other equipment.

Earlier, Uralvagonzavod presented the BMPT-72, based on the T-72, at the Army-2022 international military-technical forum.

The modern model of the BMPT-72 Terminator-2 was first shown in 2013. The 44-ton vehicle is armed with two 30-millimeter 2A42 automatic cannons, a 7.62-millimeter PKT machine gun, as well as four launch containers for guided missiles of the 9M120 family (Ataka complex) and two automatic 30-millimeter AG-17D grenade launchers.
