OREANDA-NEWS The Council of the European Union has given final approval to the ban on the import of Russian LNG from January 1, 2027 and Russian pipeline gas from September 30, 2027, according to a statement published on the website of the Council of the EU.

In early December, the EU countries adopted a preliminary agreement to abandon the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and pipeline gas from Russia: a complete ban on LNG imports will enter into force on January 1, 2027, and a ban on pipeline gas imports from Russia - from November 1, 2027. According to the agency's calculations, with a complete ban on Russian gas, the European Union will miss more than 17% of its imports.
