OREANDA-NEWS According to the results of last year, Russia increased shrimp imports by 2% in physical terms and by 20% in monetary terms, the Fish Union reported based on data from the customs services of foreign countries.
"Russian shrimp imports in 2025 increased (year-on-year) by 2% in weight and by 20% in money," the report says.
Analysts noted that the dynamics of supplies in value terms may be explained by fluctuations in world prices for shrimp. According to the FAO, they increased by 15% from December 2024 to December 2025.
They added that the largest exporters to Russia were India with an increase of 6%, to 19 thousand tons, China with an increase of 30%, to 9 thousand tons, Vietnam - shipments increased by 5%, to 8 thousand tons, Saudi Arabia with an increase of 74%, to 7 thousand tons and Indonesia - increased by 5%, to 2 thousand tons.
"The import of shrimp helps to expand the range in the domestic market. Russia imports those species that are not produced or harvested in our country due to climatic conditions: aquaculture shrimps, aquaculture tiger shrimps, wild Argentine shrimps and more than 25 species of warm-water shrimps. Import supplies contribute to increasing the economic and physical accessibility of shrimp products for the population of the Russian Federation," explained the analytical center of the Fish Union.
In addition, they said that the popularity of shrimp among Russians is growing. Last year, sales of frozen shrimp in 8 large federal retail chains increased by 7% compared to 2024 in physical terms and by 15% in monetary terms.
