OREANDA-NEWS In the third quarter of 2025, clothing and shoe stores accounted for 45 percent of all closed points of sale in Russia, and in the second quarter this share was 54 percent. Vedomosti writes about this with reference to the NF Group data, which takes into account only the networks that have completely gone offline.
Meanwhile, the consulting company CORE.XP calculated that in Moscow alone, such stores accounted for 50 percent of all closures from July to September, which is 12 percentage points higher than in the previous quarter.
In three months, several clothing and shoe brands have closed in Russia at once, and some of them have decided to focus on an online sales channel.
Olga Steinberg, an analyst and publisher of Fashion Buzz, pointed out that in 2022-2024, manufacturers relied on expansion due to the mass departure of popular foreign brands from the country and experiments with formats, but now they are forced to optimize their business.
As it turned out, small and medium-sized brands are too vulnerable because they have a less stable sales structure and limited access to loans, as well as depend on marketplaces. When the operating costs of maintaining physical points of sale and the tax burden grow, they have no choice but to go online or close down.
IN THE CORE.XP notes that clothing, shoe, and accessory stores accounted for a third of all new outlet openings in the third quarter.
Earlier it was reported that since 2022, prices for clothing and footwear in Russia have been growing faster than overall inflation, but have recently slowed to its level. Experts attribute the dynamics to a general cooling in demand, which is associated with a drop in purchasing power, that is, with a lack of money from citizens for goods from this category.
