OREANDA-NEWS   Reports that the United States may impose a complete naval blockade of Cuba are alarming. This was pointed out by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, her statement was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Such "stuffing" cannot but cause deep anxiety against the background of (...) the forcible seizure of the current President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife. Moreover, representatives of the American administration have repeatedly voiced threats against Cuba, including their willingness to "blow everyone up there," and also aggressively suggested that Havana make some kind of "deal," the diplomat noted.

Zakharova pointed out that Cuba has been experiencing great difficulties for many decades due to the economic blockade imposed on it, while Washington "goes to any lengths to further tighten it."

However, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed the hope that media publications about a possible blockade "have no basis in fact," and common sense will prevail among representatives of the US administration.

On January 23, Politico, citing sources, reported that Washington is exploring new measures to put pressure on the Cuban authorities, including the imposition of a complete naval blockade to stop oil imports. According to the publication, the initiative is being actively promoted by a number of critics of the Cuban regime, acting in the entourage of American President Donald Trump, and is also supported by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
