OREANDA-NEWS  On Tuesday, the UN Security Council will hold an urgent meeting on the topic of terrorist attacks on the Nord Streams at Russia's request.

Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, reported on the relevant meeting earlier. According to him, it was requested by the Russian side in connection with "new information about the arrest of a suspect in the organization of terrorist attacks."

During Tuesday's meeting, he noted, Russian diplomats would "draw attention to the delay in the German investigation and its lack of transparency for the Security Council."

On the night of August 21, Italian Carabinieri, at the request of the German prosecutor's office, arrested 49-year-old Ukrainian Sergey Kuznetsov in the province of Rimini, who allegedly coordinated sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea in September 2022. Kuznetsov was detained when he arrived in Italy on vacation with his family.

On August 22, the Bologna City Court confirmed Kuznetsov's arrest and scheduled the next hearing for September 3. As the lawyer of the Ukrainian told RIA Novosti, technically, a future hearing may already lead to a decision on extradition to Germany. Kuznetsov refused the voluntary extradition at the meeting. He is currently in prison in Rimini.
