OREANDA-NEWS. July 09, 2012. Vladimir Putin held a meeting on disaster relief operations following the flooding in Krasnodar Territory, during which he was briefed on the situation in the region, the rebuilding work, and the measures taken to help the flood victims.

The meeting began with a minute of silence in memory of those killed by the floods.

Regional Development Minister Oleg Govorun and Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov reported on the damage caused by the floods and the measures being taken. Healthcare Minister Veronika Skvortsova briefed the President on assistance the flood victims are receiving, and Director of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological, and Nuclear Monitoring Nikolai Kutyin reported on the situation at the Neberdzhayevskaya reservoir.

Director of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Alexander Frolov gave information on the natural causes that provoked the disaster, and Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee Yelena Leonenko reported on the operations underway in the disaster zone to identify those killed in the floods.

Mr Putin instructed the Investigative Committee to conduct an objective investigation of the authorities’ actions to warn local residents of the disaster and of the measures they have taken in response to the floods.

Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev briefed the President on the measures taken to prevent looting and protect state institutions and material assistance distribution points. Finance Minister Anton Siluanov reported on the measures taken to provide financial compensation to the victims.
