OREANDA-NEWS Abkhazia will return 25 million rubles to the Social Fund of Russia, which were illegally received by relatives of deceased pensioners in various years. This decision was made by the Parliament of the Republic.

"An amendment is being made to the section "Other national issues" of the budget of the Pension Fund of Abkhazia, according to which 25 million rubles will be used to reimburse the funds received unnecessarily by the relatives of deceased pensioners," the explanatory note to the bill on amendments to the law "On the budget of the Pension Fund of Abkhazia for 2023" adopted in the second and final reading says.

According to the office of the Pension Fund of Russia in Abkhazia, the total number of citizens who illegally received funds from the FIU exceeds 600 people.

In March 2023, the Federation Council approved a law on the ratification of the protocol to the agreement between Russia and Abkhazia on strengthening control over the expenditure of Russian funds for the payment of pensions and additional payments to Russian citizens permanently residing in Abkhazia. The law was then signed by President Vladimir Putin.

The document noted that the volume of excessively received pension amounts and surcharges for the period from 2015 to June 30, 2022 amounted to more than 24.3 million rubles (over 19.6 million excess pension amounts and more than 4.7 million surcharges). The document assumes the return by the Abkhaz side of overpaid pensions and additional payments to them.
