China is Tatarstan's main investor, Minnikhanov said

OREANDA-NEWS Tatarstan's trade turnover with China reached a record $3.35 billion in 2025, and China is the republic's main investor, said Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov.
"It is gratifying that Tatarstan-Chinese relations are growing stronger every year, becoming a significant contribution to the reliable partnership of our countries. Our trade turnover reached record levels last year and amounted to $3.35 billion. China is the main investor of our republic," Minnikhanov said at the opening ceremony of the Rostki International Forum.
According to the head of Tatarstan, an open and constructive dialogue is of particular value in modern conditions. It is this kind of collaboration with Chinese partners that allows us to find effective solutions, create new production chains, introduce innovations and create conditions for economic growth, he added.
Minnikhanov noted that since 2023, the Rostki Forum has become one of the largest platforms for Russian-Chinese interregional cooperation, which brings together representatives of government, business, science, education and culture. Its results are continued in new investment projects, agreements, joint ventures and educational initiatives.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Russia Zhang Hanhui stressed that in recent years, Sino-Russian economic cooperation has shown steady growth. In January-July 2026, the volume of Sino-Russian trade increased by 26.3% and reached $159.2 billion.
"It is quite possible that a new historical maximum will be set by the end of the year," the ambassador said, noting that the volume of international investments between Russia and China will remain at a stable level, and the development of large joint projects continues.
The International Forum "Sprouts: Russia and China - mutually beneficial cooperation" is taking place in Kazan on August 16-19. It has been held since 2023 and is an annual platform for the development of economic cooperation between Russian regions and Chinese provinces.
