OREANDA-NEWS Rockwool LLC has filed a lawsuit in the Arbitration Court of the Moscow Region for 8.6 billion rubles against its parent company, Rockwool A/S, a large Danish manufacturer of insulation materials. The application was sent on August 11, according to the file of court cases.
There is no more detailed information in the case file yet.
A press release from the Russian Rockwool says that the company's lawsuit requires debt collection under the loan agreement dated October 29, 2020, in which the Danish Rockwool acted as a borrower. In 2020-2021, the Russian company provided two tranches totaling 5 billion rubles, the repayment period was repeatedly extended (by the latest addendum dated February 27, 2025, to November 1, 2030), while no interest payments or phased debt repayment were carried out.
In 2025, Rockwool tried several times to obtain permission from the government commission to offset the debt on the loan against the payment of dividends, but was refused "against the background of the previously granted permission to withdraw dividends from Russia in the amount of about 3 billion rubles," the release says. And on December 31, 2025, by decree of President Vladimir Putin, Rockwool's Russian assets were transferred to the temporary management of Construction Assets Development JSC (RSA).
In January 2026, Rockwool LLC exercised the right to demand early repayment of the debt. In response, Rockwool stated that it was impossible to fulfill its obligations due to the sanctions restrictions, which the Russian company did not agree with and filed a pre-trial complaint in July. The deadline for a voluntary settlement has expired, Rockwool notes.
The amount to be recovered includes 5 billion rubles of the principal debt, accrued interest and a penalty.
RSA CEO Timur Amirov, quoted in the message, said that the company would do everything to refund funds "as part of a civil process, and if necessary, a criminal one."
In addition to the assets of Rockwool, the Russian assets of the Dutch Akzo Nobel NV, one of the world's largest manufacturers of paints and coatings, were also transferred to the interim management of the RSA. The owners of the RSA are not disclosed in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities.
