OREANDA-NEWS  Two thirds of the loan obligations were written off to the regions of Russia. This was reported by TASS with reference to representatives of the department.

In total, 202 billion rubles were written off, which is a large part of the debt. Also, as an additional measure to support the subjects of the Russian Federation, it was decided to postpone the repayment of the remaining third of obligations from 2026 to 2030.

"A significant role in reducing the debt burden of the subjects of the Russian Federation is played by the work on writing off 2/3 of the debt on budget loans. Since the beginning of 2026, debts totaling about 292 billion rubles have already been written off," the Finance Ministry explained.

The ministry is currently preparing a bill on a similar transfer of 1/3 of the debt from 2027-2029 to 2031-2033, in the amount of 293 billion rubles.

As previously noted by the head of the department Anton Siluanov, the Ministry of Finance decided to actively write off debts to Russian regions. The released funds are proposed to the regions to be used for tasks related to their own development. In addition, the Ministry of Finance is determined to support the border regions, which incur additional costs due to the current situation.
