OREANDA-NEWS Since May 1, it is forbidden to export gold bars from Russia. This applies to refined (purified from impurities) metal weighing more than 100 grams and is dictated by a recent presidential decree.

This ban applies to both individuals and companies and sole proprietors, but there are exceptions. Thus, gold can be exported to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) through Moscow airports (Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo), as well as through the checkpoint of the Knevichi airport (Vladivostok). Ingots can also be exported to countries that are not members of the EAEU through the listed air harbors, but this will require permission from the Federal Assay Chamber.

The Ministry of Finance took the initiative to tighten the rules for the export of precious metals from the country. In 2025, Russian residents reduced their gold purchases for the first time in the last five years. According to the World Gold Council (WGC), purchases fell by two percent to 72 tons. Thus, Russia took the sixth place in the list of countries whose citizens purchase this precious metal.
