OREANDA-NEWS  Russians owed a record amount on credit cards — the total amount of overdue debt by the end of May amounted to 225 billion rubles, reaching 12 percent of the portfolio. On Friday, June 23, Kommersant writes with reference to the data of the Credit history Bureau (BCI) "Scoring Bureau".

At the same time, the volume of overdue credit card debt increased by more than 9 percent in May, surpassing the segment's portfolio in terms of growth rates for the first time since the beginning of the year. The increase in delinquency in the credit card portfolio is observed against the background of an increase in their issuance: an average of two million cards per month during all the spring months of 2023.

At the same time, the average receipts in the segment do not show significant changes, being at the level of about 90 thousand rubles for the last four months.

Rosbank stated that there is no increase in delinquency. The stable growth of credit card issuance is also confirmed in Promsvyazbank (PSB). The experts interviewed by the publication believe that cards issued as a "replacement" for cash loans in the crisis months of 2022 have entered the problem category.

Earlier, the company "Scoring Bureau" estimated that in February 2023, the average limit on credit cards in Russia reached a record 92.03 thousand rubles. This figure jumped by 8.6 percent compared to the same period last year. At the same time, 1.4 million credit cards were issued by banks in February, which turned out to be 9.7 percent less in annual terms.
