OREANDA-NEWS In July, the number of credit card issues in Russia increased by 18 percent. RIA Novosti reports that Russians rushed to apply for credit cards, citing data from the United Credit Bureau (OKB).
The total number of issued cards increased to 1.37 million by the end of the month. Compared to the previous month, the number of withdrawals increased by two percent, and in annual terms — by 18. At the same time, the limit on cards decreased to 164.17 billion rubles (minus a percentage month-on-month and plus 12 percent year-on-year).
"The average monthly limit on the card decreased by 3 thousand rubles to 120 thousand rubles against 123 thousand rubles in June. In annual terms, the limit was reduced by 6 thousand rubles: in July 2025, credit cards were issued with an average limit of 126 thousand rubles," the Design Bureau added.
Over the past two years, the credit card market has declined in quantitative terms by 36 percent, and in monetary terms by 38. In the first seven months of 2024, 13.85 million credit cards were issued with a total limit of 1.66 trillion rubles (an average of 236.99 billion rubles per month). Against the background of low expectations of citizens about their financial situation and slow income growth, significant market growth is unlikely, said Mikhail Aleksin, General Director of OKB.
According to the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI), by the end of July, the number of consumer loans issued in Russia increased by 27.6 percent compared to the same period in 2025. During the reporting period, financial institutions issued a total of 1.99 million consumer loans to Russians, analysts said. For comparison, in July 2025, the figure was at 1.56 million. Thus, it increased by 430 thousand units in annual terms.
