OREANDA-NEWS In the first ten weeks of 2024, Russians spent 612 million rubles to buy pregnancy tests, which was a record in the last five years. Vedomosti writes about this with reference to the report of the analytical company DSM Group.

Experts call this dynamic natural. As Sergey Shulyak, CEO of the DSM Group, explained, in recent years, Russians have been postponing the birth of children for a number of reasons. Marina Shcherbatykh, a gynecologist at the BestDoctor group of companies, pointed out that the authorities' measures to support families could affect the growth in the number of people who planned pregnancy this year. In addition, an express test is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to determine pregnancy, so there will always be demand for them, the doctor added.

Earlier it became known that Russian condom manufacturers had unexpected problems amid sanctions and reorientation to other procurement markets. Difficulties arose due to the discrepancy between the average penis sizes of Russians and residents of Southeast Asia, where the necessary blanks are purchased. The need to make condoms to order has led to an increase in the cost and production time in Russia.

In relation to the beginning of 2023, sales growth amounted to 20.5 percent, in the first ten weeks of the year, then 508 million rubles were spent on tests.

The fact that Russians stopped buying pregnancy tests is evidenced by data according to which, in kind, four million tests were sold in pharmacies in ten weeks of this year, compared to 3.5 million units in the same period last year. The positive dynamics is confirmed by the market participants surveyed by the publication.
