OREANDA-NEWS The rapid growth of the US stock market continues — the S&P 500 index, which includes quotes from 500 of the largest US companies by capitalization, has updated another historical record, exceeding 7,500 points for the first time, according to trading data. By the time of writing, it was growing by 0.87 percent, to 7,509.24 points.
Recently, the indicator broke the 7,400 point mark, having jumped by 17 percent since the end of March due to hopes of easing tensions between the United States and Iran and a sharp jump in corporate profits, including those related to the artificial intelligence sector.
Analysts at Morgan Stanley investment bank have raised their end-of-year target forecast for the S&P 500 from 7,800 to 8,000 points, but they also allow for a jump to 9,400. They noted that the market has experienced a "significant revaluation and expansion of the market" against the background of the AI boom, and a new sharp rise in oil prices is now able to stop growth.
Not everyone agrees with such estimates. For example, legendary investor Warren Buffett believes that the markets are now like casinos and the mood on them has never been "so ludomaniacal."
