OREANDA-NEWS By the end of August, the average size of consumer (POS) loans in Russia increased by 3.4 percent in monthly terms. The data from the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI), shows a noticeable increase in the indicator.
Over the past summer month, the average term of such loans in the domestic market reached 72.6 thousand rubles, analysts said. For comparison, in July the indicator was at the level of 70.2 thousand. Thus, in monthly terms, it increased by 2.4 thousand rubles.
Experts have recorded the largest average amount of POS loans issued in the largest cities and regions of the country. So, in Moscow, the figure was 94.9 thousand rubles, in St. Petersburg - 89.8 thousand, and in the Moscow and Leningrad regions — 85.7 and 84 thousand rubles, respectively. The fastest growth was recorded in the Leningrad and Belgorod regions (plus 13.7 and 9.7 percent), as well as in the Primorsky Territory (plus 6.9 percent).
Despite a noticeable increase in the average size of this type of loans, the number of approved applications still remains at a relatively low level, said Alexey Volkov, NBKI Marketing Director. This, he explained, is largely due to the tightening of regulation by the Central Bank (CB), against which banks have become much more careful to consider such appeals from citizens. Russians with a high debt burden have fewer and fewer chances to get a new loan in this situation, Volkov stated.
According to VTB, given the current realities in the domestic market, there is no reason to expect an early surge in lending in Russia. The full cost of loans will remain at a very high level for a long time, despite the gradual reduction in the key interest rate, the financial institution concluded. Against this background, experts recommended that citizens, if possible, refrain from applying for new loans.
