OREANDA-NEWS  The Moscow Arbitration Court, at the request of the Bank of Russia, declared the Garant-Invest bank bankrupt, whose license was revoked in December, and opened bankruptcy proceedings against this credit institution, RIA Novosti correspondent reports from the courtroom.

The court assigned the duties of the bankruptcy trustee to the State Corporation Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA).

A representative of the Central Bank said in court that according to the results of the financial survey of the interim administration, "the amount of property shortage has been increased and adjusted," and therefore he attached additional documents. A representative of the interim administration appointed to Garant-Invest after the license was revoked said that "the quality of the loan portfolio continues to deteriorate." However, the lawyers did not name the new size of the "hole" in the bank's capital at the meeting.

Starting from December 26, 2024, the Bank of Russia revoked the license for banking operations and professional activities in the securities market from the commercial bank Garant-Invest, which ranked 168th in the banking system in terms of assets. This was the sixth case of license revocation in the past year.

As the Central Bank explained its decision, the credit institution violated federal laws governing banking activities, as well as Bank of Russia regulations, and therefore the regulator repeatedly applied measures to it over the course of 12 months, including restrictions on attracting depositors' funds.

The regulator's message noted that during an unscheduled inspection conducted on December 25, 2024, a large shortage of cash was identified in the vault of the values of the bank "Garant-Invest". The formation of necessary reserves for possible losses on virtually non-existent assets will entail a complete loss of the credit institution's own funds (capital). With this in mind, a real threat to the interests of creditors and depositors has arisen in the activities of Garant-Invest bank, the regulator concluded.

On January 10, the DIA reported that since December 28, 1.6 thousand depositors of Garant-Invest have applied for insurance compensation, who received 2 billion rubles, which is 45% of the state corporation's insurance liability for the bank. According to the registry of the credit institution, the amount of insurance liability of the DIA is 4.4 billion rubles. More than 4.3 thousand depositors, including about 300 legal entities, will be able to receive compensation within the established limits.
