OREANDA-NEWS Russian citizens spend about 2 trillion rubles a year with bookmakers, said Ivan Chebeskov, Deputy Finance Minister of the Russian Federation.
"The logic of the bill was quite simple - our citizens spend about 2 trillion rubles a year from bookmakers, that is, a lot of money. First of all, we wanted to create mechanisms for informing citizens through bookmakers. Secondly, that this money can still be spent for some other purposes, including investing for their own well-being and adding money to the economy," he said, speaking at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy.
On February 11, the State Duma passed a law aimed at combating gambling addiction. Starting in September 2026, it obliges bookmakers and sweepstakes to post information about the risks and possible consequences of gambling on their websites, as well as in betting shops and points. At the same time, they will have to provide clients with access to information about investment opportunities for their funds.
