OREANDA-NEWS The Leninsky District Court of Omsk sentenced a 48-year-old resident of the Moscow region to eight years and one month in prison for assault and extortion of bitcoins in the amount of 181 million rubles.

The convicted person will serve his sentence in a high-security colony. He also has to pay 180 thousand rubles to the victim as compensation for moral damage caused.

The court found that in August-September 2021, the man began to follow the victim in Omsk, assuming that he had a large amount of money in bitcoins, which is equivalent to 181 million rubles. Then he started calling him and threatening him, demanding to transfer funds to his crypto wallet.

In November 2021, the defendant purchased two stun guns in Moscow and, together with two accomplices, returned to Omsk, planning to attack the victim. On the night of December 22, 2021, masked bandits armed with stun guns entered the bitcoin owner's house, but they were rebuffed and fled.

As a result of operational search measures, a resident of the Moscow region was detained, he did not admit guilt in the crime. The criminal case against his accomplices has been separated into a separate proceeding.
