OREANDA-NEWS By the end of April, Ukraine's national debt reached 104.6 percent of the country's nominal GDP. In the first four months of the year, the indicator increased by another 3.4 percentage points, RIA Novosti writes, citing data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance.
As of April 30, the national debt of the country reached 9.345 trillion hryvnias (about 212.1 billion dollars). In January–April, it increased by 3.3 percent. At the same time, nominal GDP at the end of last year was 8.931 trillion hryvnias (approximately 202.6 billion dollars), which brought the ratio of public debt to GDP closer to 105 percent.
This is noticeably higher than at the end of last year — at the end of December, the national debt reached 101.2 percent of GDP.
Earlier it was reported that the volume of Ukraine's shadow economy is currently estimated at 45 percent of GDP. According to Julie Kozak, Director of Communications at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the partial withdrawal of this sector into the legal sphere should be an important step towards reforms by the state.
