OREANDA-NEWS A Chinese citizen and a resident of Kaliningrad will appear in court in the Moscow region for smuggling amber to the People's Republic of China (PRC) with a total damage of 13.5 million rubles. About this was reported by the official representative of the main directorate of the Investigative Committee for the Moscow region Olga Vradiy.

During the investigation, 50 interrogations were conducted and 714 kilograms of amber were seized. An accomplice of the accused, a former police officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia at Sheremetyevo Airport, was sentenced to five years in this case. He entered into a pre-trial agreement with the investigation.

According to the agency, in 2021, the defendants bought 813 kilograms of raw amber. Of these, 99 kilograms worth 4.3 million rubles were illegally moved across the customs border using postal items. 48 kilograms of amber worth 2.8 million rubles were seized by customs officers in Sheremetyevo.

During the search of the Chinese citizen's house, another 373 kilograms of amber were found, packaged in different packages. In addition, the defendants moved another 293 kilograms of amber through a customs post near Kaliningrad, but soon all the goods were seized by security forces.
