OREANDA-NEWS Due to changes in the migration legislation of Latvia, almost 800 Russian pensioners were at risk of deportation. Such statistics were published by the Russian Embassy in the republic in the Telegram channel.

"1,167 Russian citizens living in Latvia are under threat of deportation, 789 of them are over 60 years old. Blind people with disabilities from childhood are among the candidates for expulsion," the diplomatic department said.

The embassy noted that due to the implementation by Riga of amendments to the law "On Immigration", many elderly people have lost their livelihoods and may be expelled from the country.

For ignorance of the language, the authorities of the republic, in particular, canceled the residence permit of a 72-year-old blind pensioner. The woman was deprived of benefits, as well as the opportunity to receive medical care, including the purchase of prescription medicines.
