OREANDA-NEWS  An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 was registered on Wednesday in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the northern Kuril Islands, it was felt on Paramushir Island, Elena Semenova, head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station, told RIA Novosti.

"An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred at 13.46 (5.46 Moscow time - ed.) on August 5. Its epicenter was located 79 kilometers south-east of the city of Severo-Kurilsk on Paramushir Island, the center was at a depth of 45 kilometers under the seabed," the seismologist said.

According to Semenova, the earthquake was felt in Severo-Kurilsk with a force of up to three points, a tsunami alert was not announced.
